Bringing the world of life sciences directly into classrooms across Ohio and beyond.
Partnering with the BioPathways team, AtriCure, an Ohio Life Sciences member company, hosted an outstanding virtual visit for students and teachers. This engaging experience not only showcased innovative work happening in Mason, Ohio, but also opened students’ eyes to the wide range of careers and possibilities within the life sciences industry.
From start to finish, the AtriCure team delivered an authentic, inspiring look at how science, technology, and patient impact come together every day at their facility. The enthusiasm, expertise, and commitment to education demonstrated by the entire team made this virtual visit truly memorable.
The impact of the AtriCure virtual field trip was significant:
- 239 teachers registered, representing 416 classrooms
- 6,460 students registered for the event
- 39 Ohio counties were represented
These numbers highlight the growing interest among educators and students to explore real-world applications of science and learn directly from industry leaders.
For many students, this virtual field trip was their first introduction to a medical technology company and to the idea that life-changing innovation is happening right in their own backyard. Through behind-the-scenes insights and conversations with professionals at AtriCure, students were able to see how classroom learning connects to real careers—whether in engineering, manufacturing, research, quality, or business operations.
Experiences like this are critical to building awareness of Ohio’s life sciences ecosystem and helping students envision themselves as part of it.
Educator response reinforced the success of the program:
- 75% of participants reported being very willing to participate in additional BioPathways virtual visits
- Teachers indicated strong alignment with curriculum standards
- Overall experience ratings reflected high satisfaction and enthusiasm
